Eight Weird Early Pregnancy Symptoms

Everyone is aware of classic signs of pregnancy like morning sickness, nausea, vomiting, backaches and tender breasts. There are some other symptoms which are weird and uncommon. Metallic taste in the mouth is one such odd symptom which may not always be the sign of a dental problem. This may be another symptom of being pregnant. Here is a look at some of the weird and unusual signs of pregnancy:

  1. The taste turns metallic:

Pregnancy leads to an increase in sex hormones like estrogen and progesterone in females. This rise in hormonal level can cause a condition called dysgeusia in which woman always feels a metallic taste in her mouth. Get rid of this metallic taste by munching sugarless gums or saltines. Take colder liquids also to avoid this taste.

  1. Cold and flu-like symptoms:

Pregnancy lowers the body immunity and therefore, you become more prone to viral attacks. Cold and flu-like symptoms, nasal stiffness are also the few signs of pregnancy. Use natural remedy like a natural humidifier, snorting salt water. Sudden nose bleeds can also happen during this time.

  1. Vaginal discharge:

Most pregnant ladies suffer from vaginal discharge in the early phases of pregnancy. There may be white, sticky or pale yellow mucous discharge from the vagina, especially, during the first trimester of your pregnancy. This discharge may be due to hormonal imbalance and increased blood flow in the vagina. Therefore, many women prefer to wear panty liners during pregnancy. Visit your doctor if you have a burning sensation, itching, smelly or greenish yellow discharge. This may be the sign of an infection.

  1. Constipation:

Hormonal imbalance during pregnancy can slow down the peristaltic movement of your intestine and can make it sluggish. You may find difficulty in expelling stools. Apply home remedies like exercise, drinking plenty of water and eating high fiber diet to get relief from constipation during pregnancy.

  1. Flatulence and bloating:

You may suffer from gastrointestinal disturbances like belching, bloating of stomach, burp, flatulence etc. during your pregnancy. This is again due to the imbalance at the hormonal level. Try avoiding spicy and fatty foods. Eat plenty of fruits and drink lots of water. This will treat your problem of metallic taste in the mouth also.

  1. Insomnia:

Pregnancy can make you awake for nights. You may suffer from sleep disorders like insomnia or lack of sleep. Some of the tips to treat insomnia are avoiding caffeine, meditation, doing pregnancy-related exercises.

  1. Muscle cramps, headaches, and frequent urination:

Pregnancy may cause abdominal cramps, headaches and other body aches. Most women would also like urinate more frequently than normal. This is due to the increased blood volume during pregnancy.

  1. Signs of a false period:

Approx 25 to 40% of pregnant women may suffer from slight bleeding or spotting. This slight bleeding happens when the fertilized egg gets implanted on the uterus walls. This is also called as implantation bleeding. This usually occurs after 2  weeks of conception. Visit your doctor in case you bleed.
